people keep saying to me that they want to hear our new songs. so come to our gig next friday! (unless you’re out of the country. then you have an excuse.) anyway, if you can’t make the gig, be comforted by the fact that at least the gig will fund studio time which we will be booking a week or two after the gig.

the origins of sandbox astronomy can be found in sooth eefrica. graeme ross-munro, having moved from sooth eefrica to the u.s. as a teenager, realized while in college that the two things that americans know about sooth eefrica are apartheid and dave matthews. wishing to remedy this situation, graeme set about on a campaign to raise awareness of the sooth effrican hedgehog.
seriously, look at the little bastard! it’s ridiculously cute. in the midst of his campaign, graeme met vance reed, some guy obsessed with all things astronomical. while graeme was espousing the virtues of the cutest little hedgehog found in the southern region of africa, vance was attempting to get a few words in edge-wise in regards to various astronomy terminology. one such term was sandbox astronomy, which refers to the number of stars in the sky being comparable to the number of grains of sand in the average sandbox. graeme was about to move on to the next potential hedgehog convert when he realized that sandbox astronomy and south africa have the same initials, SA. graeme’s plan then evolved into starting a band named sandbox astronomy in order to replace americans’ associations with south africa from a system of legalized racism and a crappy college rock progenitor to an indie rock band that shared the initials with his home country.
