yesterday at the library i spotted things the grandchildren should know by mark oliver everett, better known as E of eels. i finished it in two sittings. i’m not really big on music memoirs, but electro-shock blues by eels is in my top 5 all time albums, so i thought it’d be worth picking up.
actually, the last time i did read any book in this genre, it was heavier than heaven which is about kurt cobain. part of the reason that i’m not a big fan of the genre is that it destroyed my image of cobain. i always rememberred seeing interviews where he talked about not caring about being popular or accepted by the mainstream, but that was pretty far from the truth, according to that book anyway.
turns out E is what cobain always pretended to be. it’s nice to gain a whole new level of respect for an artist you’ve cared about for years as opposed to having your image of that artist destroyed. i might not listen to eels as often anymore, but i still pull out an album once in a while to listen to. E has the new album which is coming out next week streaming on myspace.
note: to all of you fans of capital letters, i did indeed actually use two in this post. snark.
